Riverstone Fire and Rescue have reminded people to be careful around fallen power lines after an incident on Hamilton Street, Riverstone on Tuesday, November 28.

“Firefighters located power lines laying across the road as well as a member of the public hanging rags and tape over the power lines,” a fire and rescue spokesperson said.

“Quickly firefighters signalled to the individual to step away from the power lines fearing they could potentially be electrocuted.”

The power was isolated and Endeavour Energy firefighters inspected the power lines.

“A section where a rag had been hung disguised a very hidden danger where the outer insulation had been torn off and exposed the live wire underneath,” the spokesperson said. “It was very fortunate that the member of the public was not seriously injured or killed.”

Report damaged or broken power lines to Endeavour Energy on 131 003.
