Emergency crews have been called to a home to offer a very different type of fire protection service.

A Riverstone Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the emergency service spared some time for a Smoke Alarm and Battery Replacement for the Elderly (SABRE) on October 4.

“Firefighters from Riverstone Fire and Rescue visited a local resident after receiving a request for a SABRE,” the spokesperson said.

“This program assists seniors and people with a disability who are vulnerable in the case of a fire because they are not able to install and/or maintain their smoke alarms.

“Firefighters visit the residence at an arranged time to install a battery-operated smoke alarm or replace existing smoke alarm batteries at no cost.

“Firefighters also provide safety advice while visiting premises.”
