When it comes to the dull business of writing reports, Blacktown Council sets the standard.

The council won a gold award at the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARAs), alongside 49 other organisations including the Department of Employment, CSIRO and ABC.

The gold award is reserved for reports that ‘demonstrate overall excellence in annual reporting and provide high quality coverage of most aspects of the ARA criteria’, making them ‘a model for other organisations to follow’.

It’s an improvement on the bronze award the council received for its 2014-15 report.

The report fared better than entries from Russia, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

Mayor Stephen Bali paid tribute to the council’s corporate finances and communications teams, saving particular praise for marketing officer Bianca Devine and financial planning manager Michael Mamo.

Mr Mamo’s team collated the financial material while Ms Devine managed the artwork and design process.
