The event, presented by Dan Murphy’s, will feature more than 600 beers and ciders, up to 180 specially brewed festival beers and ciders, Dan Murphy’s marketplace, the local taphouse craft college, ariston food and drink experience, plus the little creatures live entertainment program.

The Brewery’s sales manager David Ward has worked for the family owned business for almost five years and came up with the concept of the ‘Kiwi Sour’ beer.

“The Kiwi Sour is a traditional German style beer called ‘berliner weisse’,” he said.

“A lot of breweries now are infusing berliner weisse’s with different fruits, so we’ve infused ours with kiwifruit.”

Ward said the “liquid gold” is a sour tasting beer.

“It’s still very drinkable and it’s got a nice tartness that’s really well balanced – very crisp and beautiful,” he said.

Although Ward said he’s partial to a kiwi fruit, the decision to create this new flavour was because it wasn’t something often seen on the market.

“It hasn’t really been done before in Australia so we wanted to create something new and exciting,” he said.

“It’s something that we thought would work really well in a beer and it has.

“This is the first sour beer we’ve done in this brewery and the brewers, Dan Shaw and his team of brewers, did a great job.”

He described it as tasting “fresh, crisp and tart”.

The Brewery is no stranger to the GABS Fest. This year will mark their sixth year at the event.

“Last year we created an ice beer...we also did a massaman curry beer which was really popular,” he said.

“When I first tasted the Kiwi Sour I loved it. It’s exactly how I envisioned it to be. Our brewers are world class, so they can do anything.

“Because it’s a live product, sour beers can often turn out to be too sour, not sour enough, or watery, but our brewers really hit the nail on the head with this one.”
