Western Sydney Wanderers continued its customary off-season overhaul on Tuesday by announcing three key signings for next season.
The Wanderers have captured the signatures of former Wellington Phoenix midfielder Roly Bonevacia and Socceroos full-back Josh Risdon until the end of the 2018-19 A-League season.
Versatile defender Michael Thwaite has also been signed a one-year deal to bolster the Red and Black’s squad, which was depleted by the departure of 10 players last week.
Bonevacia, 25, and Risdon, 24, have established themselves as two of the league’s most dominant performers in their respective positions in recent years.
“I’m very excited to start a new challenge, it’s something I’m really looking forward to,” Bonevacia said.
Perth Glory product Risdon will be replaced at his hometown club by former Wanderer Scott Neville.
“Obviously being at Perth for so long, it was a tough decision but I feel that this is the right choice and I’m really excited for the new experience,” Risdon said.
Thwaite, 34, said the chance to play under coach Tony Popovic was a big drawcard for the ex-Marconi man.
“Western Sydney is a very important region for me because that’s where my professional career started, so I feel that I need to give something back to the region,” he said.
The signings follows last week’s announcement that several first-team players including skipper Dimas, and playmakers Mitch Nichols and Nicolas Martiez would not be at Wanderland next season.
Defender Neville, import Bruno Piñatares, veteran striker Ryan Griffiths and on-loan midfielder Terry Antonis have also departed the club.
The deals of youngsters Liam Youlley, Stefan Zinni and Emilio Martinez were also not renewed.
Midfielder Kearyn Baccus is also reportedly weighing up an offer from an overseas club.
